With only one planet in our sky retrograde this week, we can collectively pause and breathe before the astrology picks up again. If you’re feeling fatigued, spent, and even a little on edge — know that you’re not alone. I know personally it’ll take a hot minute before I feel I’ve recovered from that Mars retrograde. If you too felt personally victimized by that transit, know that you’ll feel a little less activated about it come April when the planet moves past its shadow.

This week, Mercury is heading into the sign of Aries, where it’ll join Venus and Chiron. Honestly, it’s the perfect storm for some potent shadow work before Mercury and Venus are retrograde at the same time. Venus being retrograde will give you the vulnerability to look inward, while Chiron does what it does best at making us uncomfortable while simultaneously being a conduit for growth. Keep reading for some inspiration for a shadow work ritual to transmute some of this astrological energy.

Ostara has been heavily on my mind, obviously seen by last week’s prompt to work with nature for March. This week, I’ll help you go a little deeper and give you some topics to ponder on while you’re getting outdoors again. Plus, some altar tips and how to honor this time of year in solitude. At the bottom of this publication in the Inner Circle, we’ll touch on the topic of protection since you’ll be going outside more often and working with the spirits outdoors.

If you have any burning questions about astrology — send me a message on the subscriber chat! More intimate topics of spellwork, dreamwork, and magick are available for paid subscribers, too!

Mar 3 | Healing egotistical wounds

Mercury Aries ingress

Make sure you’re not jumping to any conclusions, which will be the biggest ask of this transit (especially when it goes retrograde later in the month.) It’s a good time to flex your independence though, but make sure that you’re not hypervigilant in doing so. You’ll notice some clarity at the beginning of the month on making decisions and being able to do so even while under a bit of pressure. Perfect for asking for raises, making travel plans, or starting a new project.

Toward the end of this transit, expect conversations from family members. These might come out of the woodwork and be a bit triggering — or they might be unexpectedly healing. What matters is you give yourself a bit of grace and check in with your feelings before you respond. You won’t want to say anything that you can’t take back.

Make sure that you’re not letting the energy of the past influence your presence. Feelings of low self-esteem or even regret might be bubbling at the surface, so be cautious that you’re not speaking from a place of displaced emotion.

🕯️ Shadow work ritual: As past wounds bubble to the surface, it’s crucial to respond from a place of awareness rather than old patterns. This spell works with the energy of the moment to release emotional baggage, break cycles, and step into your power.

What you’ll need:
a candle
small mirror
piece of paper
fire-safe bowl
herbal tea of choice
amethyst or black tourmaline

Light your candle, gaze into the mirror, and reflect on where your past is influencing your present.

Write down what you wish to release, then burn the paper as you recite:

"I release the weight of the past,
No longer bound, I stand steadfast.
What no longer serves dissolves in flame,
I reclaim my power, whole and untamed.”

Drink your tea, hold your crystal, and visualize yourself surrounded by protective light. Close the ritual by extinguishing the candle and journaling on what insights arose.

⚠️ Remember: If a family conversation leaves you feeling off balance, carry your crystal as a talisman and repeat, “I respond, not react. I am in control of my energy.”

🔮Tool of the week

Last week, I touched on the magic of getting outdoors — not just for your health but for your spiritual practice. Time in nature strengthens immunity, lifts your mood, and aligns you with natural rhythms. But it also deepens your connection to the unseen. This week, as I sat in the sun with my hands in the dirt, I realized how ungrounded I’ve felt in the colder months. That simple moment of listening to the wind, feeling the Earth beneath me was a reset. Building a relationship with the land isn’t just beneficial, it’s reciprocal.

If you have trees near your home or spend time in city parks, remember that the land carries active energy. So many of us forget that. If you garden, work with trees, or simply want to honor the space you reside in, consider how you’re giving back. Offerings can be as simple as buried crystals, adornments made of natural materials, or keeping the area clean. When we nurture the land, it nurtures us in return. This is a relationship, not a transaction. Of course, I could go into how the buying and selling of land on American soil is undoubtedly wrong, considering we’re all on stolen land here, but I digress.

Sitting beneath a tree and asking for connection is a powerful practice. At first, it may seem like nothing happens, but that’s just because you’re still learning how to listen. Over time, the messages become clearer. Trees in particular hold wisdom and offer guidance. Leaving a small offering like fruit, seeds, or even a coin can strengthen the bond. If you’re not hearing or feeling anything, keep trying and continue to build that relationship.

One of my favorite parts of spending time outside is noticing omens. Animals, sensations, and even shifts in the wind can carry meaning. Keeping a journal helps track these patterns. Maybe you always see a certain bird before receiving good news, or an ancestor’s presence is tied to a specific animal. The more you pay attention, the clearer the signs become.

Finally, nature itself is an ally in protection. Working with the spirits of the land can safeguard your home both energetically and physically. We’ll explore this deeper in the Inner Circle below with this week’s spell highlight.

🌿 Homestead highlight

Ostara is all about renewal, balance, and welcoming the return of the Sun’s warmth. Celebrating solo can be just as magical — maybe even more so, since you get to craft a ritual that feels deeply personal.

Start by spending time outdoors, even if it’s just standing in the sun for a few moments with your feet on the earth. If you have space, plant seeds (literally or figuratively). This is the perfect time to set intentions for growth whether that’s a new project, a mindset shift, or something you want to manifest in the coming months.

A simple altar can help set the tone: think fresh flowers, a candle to represent the Sun’s growing power, and symbols of fertility and balance like eggs or a small bowl of seeds. If you work with deities, this is a great time to make offerings to those connected with spring, renewal, or dawn (Eostre, Persephone, or even solar deities like Apollo).

For an easy yet powerful ritual, try a sunrise meditation or a candle spell for new beginnings. Write down your intentions for the season, then light a candle and visualize them taking root and flourishing. Drink a cup of herbal tea (chamomile, lavender, or lemon balm) to bring in a sense of peace and harmony. However you celebrate, keep it intentional and let your practice bloom in a way that feels right for you.
