#94 | Leaning into your personal power & listening to Venus about...

You’re not dreaming, it’s in fact, Monday! I accidentally got wrapped up in my solar return celebrations (ie: my upcoming birthday). Rest assured that I got you covered in the upcoming Venus ingress and the spellwork to make the most out of the current season though. On top of celebrating, I also seemed to have caught a winter bug, so I’ll be less online than usual this week while I focus on healing.
Thankfully, I have lots of herbs to support me, and I’ll be making another order from my favorite herbal tea shop — High Garden Tea. I usually lean on their respiratory resilience tea when I feel like this, and pair it with this Old Indian Cherry Bark Syrup. Let’s hope I get back on my feet quickly because I’m the type of gal who celebrates my birthday all month long! I feel like us air signs love to draw out celebrations, our birthdays in particular.
In other news, we had our first false spring here in the western mountains of North Carolina. It’s interjected so much excitement for the months to come with sowing our second year of seeds and focusing on growing our micro-homestead. I’m even more excited to show y’all what we’re doing so you can be inspired to do the same for yourself. Having the option to be self-reliant in a time of such uncertainty is the only thing keeping me sane right now. If you’re feeling particularly stressed right now about the current climate, do what you can and explore expanding your pantry of shelf-stable foods. Our household has a solid pantry of single-ingredient whole-food items to last about 2 months, maybe 3 if we plan right. This year we’re hoping to double that by using our freeze dryer.
In lighter news, this week I’ll show you how to work with the energy of Venus while she changes signs into Aries, the place where she’ll be going retrograde in the coming weeks. I have a natal Venus in Aries, so I’m quite qualified to give you the tea on this transit. Then, we’ll dive into card divination — something near and dear to my heart. Of course, we’ll talk about Imbolc, and how to honor some of the light returning. Lastly, folks in the Inner Circle will get to learn about protection magick, specifically warding your home.

Feb 4 | Firing up your ability to connect with your subconscious
Venus in Aries
Albeit a place that Venus doesn’t necessarily thrive in, Venus in Aries provides an urgency to express yourself. It allows you to find the balance between a deep wanting to be connected but also honoring the pining to be unique. In this duality, you’ll find themes of creation, independence, and falling in love with your passions. During the retrograde though, expect somewhat shocking illuminations, deep rethinking, and an opportunity to boldly express yourself.
Keep in mind that you’ll be familiar with this Aries-Venus retrograde energy until April 26th. If you work with this cosmic power correctly, you’ll truly have an opportunity to shock yourself, in the best way possible. You’ll be able to overcome something and shock yourself with your power. Or maybe, dive into your passion and be recognized for your previously hidden talents. You’ll just need to be conscious of not acting from a place of ego or necessarily wanting to be recognized. If it happens, let it come, but don’t hold onto an outcome and be overcome by the toxic side of it.
🌿 Carve your name or an empowering affirmation into a red or pink candle, anoint it with cinnamon or clove oil, and set an intention for self-confidence and magnetism. Carve the symbol for Venus into the candle to further your connection to this planet and Goddess.
🔥 Stand before a mirror, speak your deepest desires aloud, and affirm your worth with conviction. Aries energy asks for courage—this is the time to claim it. Even better if you’re able to use the candle above in this mirror ritual.
🔮Tool of the week
Card divination and 3 tips to connect with this practice
This week, we’re diving into one of my tried and true divination tools for myself and clients alike — cards! I always stress that card divination can look however you’d like it to. Your practice won’t look like everyone else’s, and honestly, it shouldn't. It should be uniquely your own, and have your essence woven in.
Some examples are playing cards, oracle cards, tarot cards, and I’ve seen some folks that make their own divination cards, too. Make sure you connect with the deck, but remember it might not be an immediate connection. Building a relationship with any of your divination tools is one of the most important factors. I have decks that I only use for myself and others that I use with clients. I also have some decks that I purposely reach for when I need direct answers, as the deck can be pretty straightforward (and a little spicy.) Lastly, remember that you don’t need to be gifted a tarot deck to start your journey. If you’ve been subscribing to that notion, order yourself a deck of cards today and get started.
I find that setting the stage for my cards helps the message come through exponentially. Remember, this will be something unique to you and your personal journey. In my practice, I like to include my ancestors in channeling the message, and I sometimes ask them to connect me with my querier’s ancestors or guides, too. I use a special oil to connect me with said guides, and I always make sure I give them a gift in exchange for their assistance. When accessible, you can include candles, incense, and grounding sprays to help see and hear the appropriate message. I’ve seen some folks use a special tapestry and crystals for the table they’re reading on, which I think is a nice touch.
The last piece of advice is to journal or track your readings. I include the date, deck used, query, cards that came through, and how I felt after the reading. In doing this, you’re able to pick up on patterns that might not have otherwise presented themselves. You can see correlations between certain questions and your own emotions when certain cards come up. I’ve found entirely new meanings for certain cards that are completely untraditional — but far more potent than anything in the booklet or universal meaning.

🌿 Homestead highlight
Imbolc and spring cleaning
Imbolc, celebrated on February 1st or 2nd, marks the midpoint between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara). It is a festival of renewal, purification, and the return of light, deeply associated with the Celtic goddess Brigid, who presides over hearth, home, fertility, and inspiration.
Last week, we explored the basics of Imbolc and ways to celebrate it. This week, let’s dive into how the modern tradition of spring cleaning is actually rooted in the Wheel of the Year.
Imbolc marks a time of purification and preparation—both physically and spiritually. As winter begins to thaw and the promise of spring emerges, spring cleaning reflects this shift by clearing out stagnation, dust, and clutter from the darker months, making space for fresh energy and renewal.
Many traditions during this time focus on cleansing rituals, such as sweeping out negative energy, sprinkling blessed water, or burning purifying herbs like rosemary or juniper. These practices mirror the act of physically cleaning one’s home to remove energetic blockages. Imbolc is a season of transition, where the seeds of new beginnings are planted—both literally and metaphorically. By tidying and organizing our spaces, we create an environment that nurtures growth, creativity, and intention-setting as we move toward spring.
✨ What now? This coming week, set aside an hour or so to dedicate time to physically and energetically making space. Ideally, you’d do this during a peak time of daylight, and open all of the windows. If you’re smoke cleansing with dried rosemary or juniper, make it that much more potent by saying a mantra to yourself like “I invite all stagnant energy not aligned with my higher self to vacate my home”. Set a timer for each room and do what you can in that allotted time. Dust shelves, throw out trash, or go through donations and actually get them out of the house (instead of sitting in your car for the next month). Make it a point to clean your altars too, as those areas hold a lot of potent energy and need to be clean to help you receive their blessings.
